What are cookies?

These are small text files, like a packet of data, recorded and sent from a web server (website) to navigation programs (browsers). The browsers used store this information in order to define preferences according to user access.

What are the types of cookies?

  1. Own or first-party cookies: are cookies set directly by the website or application that the holder is visiting. First-party cookies generally cannot be used to track activity on any site other than the original site on which it was placed. These types of cookies can include information such as login credentials, shopping cart items or preferred language.
  2. Third-party cookies: are cookies created by a domain other than the one the user is visiting. They derive from the functionalities of other domains that are incorporated into an electronic page, such as the display of advertisements.
  3. Cookies required: are those used for the website or application to perform basic functions and operate correctly. Therefore, the collection of information is essential to ensure the functioning of the website or the proper provision of the service. Thus, the activities covered as strictly necessary include those related to the specific functionality of the service, i.e. without them the user would not be able to carry out the main activities of the website or application. This category is restricted to what is essential in order to provide the service requested by the owner, and does not include non-essential purposes that serve other interests of the controller.
  4. Analytical or performance cookies: make it possible to collect data and information about how users use the site, which pages they visit most often on that site, the occurrence of errors or information about the performance of the site or application itself.
  5. Functionality cookies: are used to provide the basic services requested by the user and make it possible to remember website or application preferences, such as user name, region or language. Functionality cookies may include first-party, third-party, persistent or session cookies.
  6. Advertising cookies: are used to collect information from the user for the purpose of displaying advertisements. More specifically, by collecting information on the user's browsing habits, advertising cookies allow them to be identified, profiles to be built and personalized advertisements to be shown according to their interests.
