09 Sep Discover the main differentiators of Oracle JD Edwards E1
The JD Edwards E1 ERP Differential – Development Tools.
Oracle JD Edwards by Oracle is one of the most complete and flexible ERPs in the technology market. Its suite of software-integrated applications combines business value, standards-based technology and deep industry experience into a low total cost of ownership business solution.
But to understand why JD Edwards works flexibly for any segment/sector, it is necessary to analyze the package of development tools that make up the system:
TOOLS -
Briefly, it is the set of development tools within JDE. These tools are highly intuitive as they have an excellent interface with the developer, in addition to providing great usability, as it is possible to create different applications through the tools as shown below.
With tools, you can create:
- tables.
- Logical views.
- Online applications.
- Simple reports easily, quickly and with few lines of code.
An example of the practicality of TOOLS is that with just 6 simple steps described below, we create a report of sales orders by customer, with data selection, totaling the value of the orders and without lines of code. The steps are:
1- Create a logical view in JDE;
2- Associate the sales order table to the created logical view;
3- Create a report in JDE;
4- Associate the logical view with the created report.
5- Define the data selection;
6- Define the “break” in the Customer Code field, choosing the “Totalization” option. These tools facilitate the creation of new reports, query applications and even new modules within JDE as the cost (time) of development is lower than in other ERPs.”
NER – (Named Event Rules)
It is the main programming language of JDE. It is an event-based language.
Examples of events in JDE:
- When a screen starts.
- When a user clicks the "OK" button.
- When the user makes a query on a screen.
- When a report is run.
We have many events where we can do NER programming.
The syntax of the language is very simple and easy to learn. A developer with a good sense of logic can easily interpret NER code.
There is no "line of code". TOOLS provides interfaces where the developer includes several instructions, such as accessing the database, calling functions, assignments, creating variables, conditional instructions, through clicks.
With this programming model, we eliminate syntax errors that are common in other languages. Most of the programming in JDE is done in NER for the ease of maintenance and creation of new features, but we also have the option of programming in C++ and Java to produce more specific features.
In addition to the creation of new functionalities, the JDE allows the customization of applications that came with the system.
Through TOOLS, we can copy a Standard object, creating a new object and customize it to suit your reality. In a conjuncture where ERPs are usually a little “stuck”, the combination TOOLS and NER is perfect for those who need to shape the system to their needs.
JD Edwards has extreme flexibility for whatever your business process, plus a high level of technological innovation. Understanding the tools is understanding the system and everything it can do for the management of your company.
