What JD Edwards Users Consider Most Important in 2024

2024 is beginning, so let's take a moment to evaluate our goals and targets for the future and those achieved over the past year. In a survey carried out by our partner Terillium, to the #JDEdwards community, these are the top priorities for users this year:

  • Update your JD Edwards system
  • Implement Additional JDE Functionality/Modules
  • JDE Support

Priority #1: Update your JDEdwards System

With the announcement of version 24 of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, 50% from the surveyed JDE community is planning to start upgrade projects.

After the release of version 9.2 8 years ago, JD Edwards adopted a continuous innovation model, focusing on delivering incremental value quarter after quarter. By using a continuous line of code and changing the delivery frequency, Oracle JD Edwards has eliminated the number of updates and decreased the degree of change between versions. This makes it easier to implement and maintain a current code strategy, which further enables a continuous adoption mindset.

Oracle is continually releasing new features and functions for applications. In fact, more improvements and new tools are added with each version released.

Moving forward with an upgrade also means fully migrating JDE to a 64-bit ERP. Customers with tooling versions 9.2.5.x and earlier are likely running JD Edwards 32-bit and will need to upgrade to use the newer tools (9.2.6.x and higher). Take this year as an opportunity to get up to speed with code, infrastructure, third-party applications, and orchestrator.

The upgrade is a requirement for customers who wish to evolve JD Edwards from a Traditional ERP to a Digital ERP with the aim of transforming into an Intelligent ERP. To ensure your transformation initiatives are delivered successfully, it is critical to capture the next wave of innovation around building intelligence.

Planning your JD Edwards EnterpriseOne upgrade

When it comes to delivering a successful JDE update, you can forget about “best practices”. To be successful, you need real, practical techniques that involve the entire project team.

In this link, MPL shares its knowledge about upgrade projects and explains why you should approach them without fear.

Priority #2: Additional JDE Features/Modules

If an upgrade hasn't been a top priority for JDE users, then they're probably strategizing how to make the most of the data they have with their EnterpriseOne system.

Over 18% from the surveyed community prioritized additional features/modules to help automate and eliminate friction in their business processes.

Orchestrator Capabilities

Of the JDE users surveyed who prioritized additional features/modules, almost 58% said that Orchestrator features were at the top of the list.

While Orchestrator has been around for a while, let's lay the groundwork. Oracle JD Edwards Orchestrator Studio provides a cost-effective way for organizations to simplify their business processes across EnterpriseOne applications. It provides an intuitive graphical user interface that hides the complexity of the root code required to process orchestrations and service requests – which contains the process steps to transform Internet of Things (IoT) data into transactions in EnterpriseOne.

With the ever-changing nature of the industry, it's important to keep your financial records, inventory, manufacturing processes, and project data accurate and up-to-date. Orchestrator also allows you to convert third-party data into EnterpriseOne values with cross-reference mapping. Collect, filter, analyze, and act on real-time data with Orchestrator.

If you are not using the latest version, Oracle details more information about what improvements were made available in the latest version at https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E84502_01/learnjde/release24.html

Priority #3: JDE Support

You probably have a JD Edwards “bucket list.” The list could include new reports, additional training for your team, help in certain areas such as Accounts Payable or Fixed Assets – or it could simply be that you would like to “do more” with JDE. You're not alone – more than 12% from the JDE community surveyed said JDE Support was their top priority for the past year.

The right partner can help you optimize JD Edwards. If you answer yes to any of these questions, it might be time to choose a JD Edwards support partner.

1. You know you could do more with JD Edwards.

You may have in mind specific features, functionality, or modules that you'd like to take advantage of in JD Edwards, but don't have the time or resources to make it happen. Or maybe you haven't identified specific improvements yet, but you know there are optimization and automation opportunities with JD Edwards.

A JD Edwards partner can provide the resources and expertise to help you turn your wish list items into reality. The right partner can also help you map out what new tools or functionality you can leverage and then prioritize based on where you'll see the biggest impact.

2. You need more JDE (or ongoing) training.

Whether it's a regular training need, for onboarding or other purposes, or project-based training to learn a new module or feature – the right JD Edwards support partner can help.

Using a partner to conduct training ensures that you and your employees learn from certified consultants who have worked on multiple JD Edwards projects and can help you

3. You need help, in general.

Maybe you have a larger, comprehensive project in mind to improve the way your organization uses JD Edwards. Or maybe you have smaller but frequent tasks you'd like to tackle.

Common support requests include:

  • User support in system operation
  • Issuance of new reports
  • Implementation of new modules
  • Training
  • Specific settings or optimizations
  • Third-party app integrations
  • Scripting and designing Workflows
  • Setting up new users or other administrative tasks

For this specific support topic, MPL has been offering its support service called Support-fix for over 20 years. We have a service focused on both the functional and technical areas.

While these are the top three goals for JD Edwards users in 2023, many companies are choosing to focus on other important areas of growth and innovation.

Implementing digital transformation and optimizing current JDE with cloud-based applications was selected as the top #4 and #5 among JD Edwards users who completed the survey.

Are you planning any additional initiatives or features? With the announcement of version 24 and those looking to implement 64-bit, half of JDE users surveyed plan to upgrade their JD Edwards system.
