Oracle Jd Edwards summit 2016

The Oracle Jd Edwards summit 2016 event:

For those who don't know, or haven't had the opportunity to participate, the Oracle JD Edwards Summit is a meeting organized by Oracle, for the entire JD Edwards partner community. During a week, several lectures and workshops are offered to present the news released in the ERP, as well as the future planning of the new versions (product roadmap). Every year, despite the cold, the Oracle Jd Edwards summit is being held in Broomfield, Colorado. Countries from all over the world participate. This year, there were 663 entries from 31 different countries.

During the Oracle Jd Edwards summit, we were introduced to new concepts; to others, old but improved; to new modules and the planned future for Oracle JD Edwards.

What's New for Oracle Jd Edwards Summit 2016:

Internet of Things:

It's something that's been talked about since last year. Oracle invested in IoT Orchestrator, which allows, from the receipt of data that is in the field, to filter and transform it into valuable information for decision making. Such as, for example: measuring the temperature within a controlled environment or tracking, via GPS, the location of products throughout the supply chain and within the factory floor itself. Imagine being able to know, in advance, that the temperature of a refrigerated area where thousands of reais are stored is rising, and it needs someone to do corrective maintenance. Or being able to track your stock from leaving your warehouse to receiving it at the customer.

Mobile:

The number of mobile applications made available by Oracle has been increasing every year, and the “offline” mode of Sales Order Entry is something that is planned for the future. This is Oracle's new bet: to allow the use of mobile devices in offline mode, for several JD Edwards applications.

Cloud:

Oracle continues to invest in improving the available Cloud environment, and has just launched a new environment with a minimum of 1 OCPU, at a cost of USD 75.00 per month.

Citizen Developer:

This new concept was born from a perception by Oracle.

Therefore, several tools were made available, minimizing the need for development during deployment.

Oracle is encouraging the formation of “citizen developers” among partners, as they are expected to be more prepared and assertive for any type of development, as they are closer to the customers, and consequently to the problem.

To facilitate the adoption of this new approach, the old customizations were classified into:

a) Customizations:

They can be done by the user, such as: creating queries, formatting grids, watchlists, favorites and developing some reports using the OneView Report (OVR) tool;

b) Settings:

Which can also be done by users, but with a greater degree of knowledge, using IoT Orchestrator, Page Composer, Cafe1, Hover, OVReports, and Kiosk mode tools; Page Composer, is a new tool that allows you to assemble new JD Edwards screens, combining existing applications, URLs, OneView Reports and the old E1 Pages (Welcome Pages) in a single system screen. This new page appears available, in tabs, on the System entry screen. The user can compose as many pages as he deems necessary. Remember the old E1 Pages, when we needed to assemble text files, almost translating the flows we wanted into a language that could be transformed into HTML? Forget it! Everything is now click and drop through Page Composer.

Kiosk mode is a simplified way to use the system. It works for users who will only have one or a few roles within the system. With this mode, all information that will not be used “disappears” from the screen, making it as simple as possible.

C) Customizations

These will need developers and the ideal is increasingly to build spare applications to JD Edwards, which depend as little as possible on the tools available in the System, using Java, JET, MAF (mobile applications) and .NET technology. And among the new modules we have:

A module created to handle your company's stock in third parties, and can be used both in consignment operations (which is a reality for Brazil) or not. This module allows the JDEdwards user to create an issue document that represents the delivery of the goods to the third party; register the receipt of the product in the warehouse of the same third party and then, as the goods are sold, it is possible from the shipment carried out to “transform” it into a sales order to be invoiced against the customer. All these documents are based on an agreement document registered in the system.

In the future, the receipt of the third-party warehouse will be done through EDI, minimizing the work of each user to register the material received.

Work Center Load Review Calendar:

Less than a module, this is a new functionality within the Manufacturing Suite that will visually allow the user to check the planned Production Orders versus their production capacity and change and/or re-date them.

One View Financial Statement:

This is a new feature for users who already own or will license OneView Financial Report.

This new module defines row/column templates for the information that will be displayed in the report. Anyone who used FASTR in WorldSoftware or Financial Reports in E1 will recognize this legacy in OVFS.

Combining these settings will generate a new report, whose layout can be modified.

Advanced Job Forecasting:

Specific module created for the construction industry with more advanced features for the preparation and monitoring of the budget of a given project. All these improvements are available from Tools 9.2.0.2 onwards, preferably to be installed in version 9.2 of the application.

What the future holds for us:

  1. IOT:  It should become a reality for companies that need to monitor equipment, track deliveries and measure machine performance.
  2. Wearables: It should increasingly become a reality for companies that need to monitor their equipment, track deliveries and measure machine performance, for example. People who work outside the office are being encouraged to use equipment that can transmit valuable information directly to the System, without the need for them to return to the office for some type of manual update to the system. There is already a company in Australia in the livestock business that controls its system using smartwatches.
  3.  Modern User Interface : With the ease of creating new pages and screens in the JDEdwards System, this is a future that is already knocking at our door, and we can already take advantage of these improvements.
  4. Date Discovery : An advanced search within the JD Edwards System is being developed so that, from a simple search, for example, a string of characters, any information related to the searched text is highlighted in the system's input screen: customers and suppliers included in the General Register, available applications, among others.
  5. Joint Venture Management : New module being developed to assist corporations that form a Joint Venture. Considering, in its operations, the percentage of participation of each company in the Joint Venture formed.
  6. Cognitive Computing: How to make the computer start to “think” like a human. This is a challenging initiative that Oracle is facing. To make this a reality, it has already started a partnership with IBM.

Final words on the Oracle Jd Edwards summit:

Also, the message from Lyle Ekdahl, Senior Vice President – JDEdwards Oracle, is that we're going to keep moving.

It's what he called the "Shark Theory".

“Discover where we are going to bet our chips: if in more specific market niches, where our advantages are recognized; or if we have to change the rule of the game, to present the customer with competitiveness beyond our competitors. "
